This Old Chair

This Old Chair.
It may just look like an old, beat up chair to you, but this chair gave me a beginning and inspiration for the future.
My life was not easy. It was filled with hardship after hardship. I was going through a tumultuous relationship that ended in divorce, and that is where I had to rebuild and start over. I was left with very little furniture and no money with 2 children to support. I had just spent the last of my money on groceries and was left with literally $1 to my name. I was driving back home with my daughters in the car when I noticed a yard sale. I thought it was strange considering it was a Thursday and yard sales are generally held on Saturdays and Sundays. We stopped the car, went to check it out, and that is when I spotted the old chair with a yellow round sticker with $1 written on it. I thought “SOLD!” All I had in my pocket was one crisp dollar bill. I took this chair home and for the last 6 years it has served me well. It has wrapped its arms around me when I felt like there was no hope, sat me up when I felt like I was falling, and has always reminded me of where I came from. It gave me a start to a rough beginning.
For the past 2 years, it has been in my office serving my clients, giving them strength in a time of grief, and has been my constant reminder of where I started and where I used to be. It is a constant reminder to always have compassion for those who are hurting and those in need. I was there so I know what it’s like to feel hopeless.
So this old chair is not just an old chair. It’s a reminder. It is a glimmer of hope, a sparkle of light, and continues to be a silent helper. I love this old chair.
